More on ways to save on gas

I found this article in The Grand Rapids Press. It shows that the price of gasoline is going up and is only going to get higher. But there are ways to fight the high price of gas besides just running your mouth.

One way to save on gas that I have not seen proposed is switching from mineral based oil to full synthetic oil. The benefits of this are two-fold. One benefit is less wear on your engine. This will save on maintenance costs.

Mineral based oil is derived from petroleum, just like gasoline. Synthetic, on the other hand, is a lubricant and is specifically designed to lubricate your engine. That also means longer times between oil changes. Improved gas mileage is another benefit.

People tend to concentrate on the higher initial cost of synthetic over mineral oil. I believe that the above said benefits would overcome that higher cost.

After all, when the automobile manufacturers deliver their cars to the dealers, they do so with synthetic oil.
