Winter is almost here, will the yahoos return?

With the start of the winter season almost around the corner, I have been wondering will all the yahoo drivers out there have finally learned their lessons? Or will they still be in such a hurry that they still be complete idiots when it comes to such things as driving in whiteout conditions?
Traditionally, that usually is not the case. We will always have people driving like complete idiots when the snow falls every year. These are the people who think that because they are driving a SUV or 4x4 means they have the right to intimidate everyone else into getting out of their way. I know that they think that they are safer in their vehicles, but what about the rest of the people that they have to share the road with? Not to mention the ones with their cell phone glues to their ears!
Even worse are the idiots who are text messaging while they are driving. That is way more dangerous than even chatting on the phone while they are driving.

Any one in doubt about to drive an SUV?

I was watching some Youtube videos and came across this old SUV commercial.
If any one has any doubts about to handle a large SUV, they need to remember what is said in this commercial. Yet, I see many people on the road that seem to drive these things like they are smaller vehicles. SUVs just don't handle like small cars and cannot turn as tightly.

Winter driving with yahoos in the mix

Even in the blizzard weather that West Michigan is experiencing these last few days, there are still quite a few of us who have to go to work. That said, driving in this weather is difficult enough with all the unintelligent, idiotic yahoos that we have to contend with.
You see them everywhere. They think that driving a big 4X4 SUV will keep them safer on the road. That may be true for them, but what about everyone else that they have to share the road with? Having that big suv does not mean you can stop any faster, it only means that you can get going faster.
Having a four wheel drive vehicle does not give the person driving it the right to intimidate other drivers in smaller vehicles jnto getting out of their way. But, as always, there are people out there who think that if you are not driving an SUV, you should not be out in this weather. So what if they have somewhere to go, so do the drivers of smaller vehicles. Ohterwise, they would not be out on the road. The road is meant to be shared by every one.

The problem is with the drivers

I read this article in the Holland Sentinel today defending the right of people to drive SUVs. Don't get me wrong. I have no problem with SUVs, they can be great tools when used responsibly. The problem is the people who drive them.
The mentality of some of the people who drive can really get scary. It is true that they have places to go and things to do. So does everyone else on the road. But a growing number of SUV drivers seem to think that their needs are greater than everyone else's. It is true that they can get going faster than other vehicles in the snow. That does not mean that they can stop faster. A SUV simply has a much greater mas than a smaller vehicle and , in a collision, has the potential to do a lot more damage. That four wheel drive capability will not save you from going in the ditch, contrary to popular belief. Also, contrary to popular belief, a person driving a SUV does not have the right to intimidate other drivers into getting out of their way. Faster traffic does not always have the right of way.
Quite a few SUV drivers say that they feel safer in their larger vehicles. With that, I will not argue. They just don't consider the safety of others sharing the road with them. This includes the smaller vehicles that other poeple are driving. They don't seem to realize that they are legally responsible for any damage they can cause to another driver that is caused by their actions.
SUVs are great tools when doing what they are designed to do. Large families who have a lot of things to haul around are a good example of that. But thay have to keep in mind that hauling a lot of stuff means extra weight and extra stopping distance.

What is it with 4X4 drivers?

When people think of buying a 4x4 SUV, I say why not look for travel trailers? They are much more spacious and great for driving in the snow. But then again, when going for a vacation, nothing beats cheap flights to canada. To get that cheap rate, first you would need to take flights to amsterdam from indian airlines. Then change flights through malaysian airlines all the way to your destination. Reserve a room just as stunning as a london hotel at your arrival.
Well, the first major snow has fallen here in West Michigan and the rednecks seem to be flocking to the roads in droves. That leads me to ask the question: Why is it that every driver of an SUV or 4X4 feels that they have the right to intimidate everyone else on the road and try to force them off the road?

It seems that they think that having that four-wheel drive available means that they can do whatever they want on the road, regardless of the safety of the others that they have to share the road with. Do they always seem to forget that actually stopping the car is just as important as getting going? It really does not matter how many wheels you have driving the vehicle, you can still wind up in the ditch. It is not what you drive, but how you drive it that matters.

Don't get me wrong. I have no problem with people driving these behemoths. It is just that their mentality seems to be that every one else has to get out of their way, which is not always the case. These people need to remember the concept called the Basic Speed Law.

Don't these idiots realize that they are sharing the road with other families? These people are so self-absorbed in their own little that they don't pay attention to what is going on around them.

Two months later, nothing has changed.

Just today, February 6, we got hit pretty hard with a snow storm. This post right here show that it does not matter what you drive, it is how you drive. Unfortunately, in their collective short sightedness, our county is trying to go cheap with their snow plows. SUV drivers seem to think that since they can afford such large and expensive vehicles that they have special privileges over other people and that they don't have to share the road. A quote from Mark Morford would sum up my attitude toward most SUV drivers: " You know it's true. SUV drivers tend, more than any others on the road, to be aggressive jerks." This article right here has some very useful tips for driving SUVs safely, some of which are no brainers. I thought that this article that I found on Craigslist put a somewhat humorous spin on the whole SUV ownership thing.
